2025 Explorations
2025 Explorations
April 5, 2025:
Explored area: Idaho City to Placerville to Garden Valley, Idaho.
North of Placerville, Idaho is where I hear a whoop two summers ago.
There was still a great deal of snow on the ground; it is still winter up there.
The only tracks I saw were a highly weathered set of what I believe were wolf tracks.
Heard nothing.
July 12, 2025:
Explored area north of Idaho City, Idaho
Followed Bear Run Road
The upper portion of this drainage has a high density of ground cover and appears to be good habitat
Saw no tracks in the dust
Heard nothing.
August 2, 2025:
Explored area: Garden Valley, Idaho to Grimes Pass and the upstream following Grimes Creek.
This area is the next major drainage to the east from the April exploration trip and is north-west of the Bear Run Road drainage
The valley surrounding Grimes Creek appeared to be ideal Sasquatch terrain, if anywhere is.
Saw no tracks in the dust.
Heard nothing.
I did discover this old mining settlement near the site of the Golden Age Mine, just east of Grimes Pass.
I feel that this area is worthy of additional exploration

September 17, 2025:
We explored area around Dismal Swamp in the Boise National Forest north of Featherville, Idaho.
This is a very remote area which has mountains reaching up to alpine elevations. Trinity Mountain has an elevation of about 9,500 feet. Note that the road passing over the summit near Trinity Mountain Lookout is the highest passenger car road in the state with an elevation of about 8,500 feet.
Dismal Swamp is north of Trinity Mountain and it sits at about 6,600 feet elevation.
Much of the area has suffered from major forest fires over the past 15 years and much of the previous lush ground cover is now gone.
We rode my ATV on this exploration.
We are at the end of the summer season, and the roads in the area have been highly travelled. This has resulted in a lot of very fine powdery dust.
The dust allowed us to look for any tracks along the road. We saw nothing with the exception of what looked to be dress-shoe (not boots) footprints in the middle of nowhere.
I am always amazed by how few animals we see on an outing, and we saw none on this outing and we saw very few animal tracks. What we did see were deer tracks.
