Final Considerations About Researching Bigfoot
Final Considerations About Researching Bigfoot
In the past, evidence which indicated potential Bigfoot activity has been periodically discovered. New, credible information would show up every few years. Many of these discoveries were investigated by a wide range of individuals; many of whom were legitimate scientists. In addition, these findings were often investigated by experienced and dedicated Bigfoot researchers.
Beginning around 2010 there has been an ever-growing interest in the topic of Bigfoot. Due to a wide variety of documentaries and YouTube videos, public interest in Bigfoot has skyrocketed. This interest has opened the floodgates for a huge number of new, amateur "Bigfoot Hunters".
Today, anyone can host a video blog documenting their personal quest for uncovering the truth about Bigfoot. I have found that these "documentaries" fall into one of three categories.
Type 1: These documentaries rehash the classic Bigfoot stories, sometimes adding new tidbits of information. Seldom is there any substantial new information provided, but it is interesting to hear the same stories from a variety of perspectives.
Type 2: These documentaries are from individuals who are working to increase the world's knowledge of the Bigfoot phenomena by applying the scientific method and technical analysis of the evidence. I have found these documentaries to be thought provoking and step-by-step, they are increasing our knowledge of Bigfoot.
Type 3: These are YouTube videos created by people wanting to jump onto the Bigfoot bandwagon for their "moment of fame". Many of these videos suggest that Bigfoot is an alien, a shape shifter, or is able to travel between planes of reality using portals. Suddenly, every odd sound at night, in any location which might have trees, is a Bigfoot. Every tree that has fallen is a tree-structure. I am constantly amazed by the videos from some tenderfoot who goes camping (basically in their local park) and suddenly is almost killed by Bigfoot! Bigfoot is everywhere and he is out to get you.
The reason I mention these three types of documentaries is that I suggest that you pay careful attention to whom it is you are listening to for knowledge. Type 3 documentaries simply muddy the Bigfoot waters and add noise to any scientific data which might actually be present.
There is much controversy regarding if it is moral to kill a potentially sentient being to help protect their entire species.
When the gorilla, orangutan, and chimpzee were discovered, many were killed. Sportsmen saw them as a special prize. Now, we understand (somewhat) their level of intelligence and now, all of these species are legally protected world-wide.
Koko was a Western Gorilla raised in captivity. She developed a vocabulary of over 1,000 words using sign language and was able to hold intelligent conversations with humans. While KoKo lacked the vocal cords to be able to speak, she did not lack the intellect.
When KoKo died at age 46, her final words were:
"I Am Nature, Earth KoKo love, Fix Earth Help."
Realizing that a Bigfoot would probably be more intelligent than a gorilla, how could anyone justify "killing one for science"?
By pledging to not killing a Bigfoot, we will all help KoKo achieve her final wish.
"I find that after having written this book, I am no closer to understanding Bigfoot than I was when I started investigating the entire phenomena over 50 years ago."
Nothing has changed for me since writing that book. I will keep searching for additional clues of the animal. Nothing could please me more than somebody making the discovery of Bigfoot at some time before I pass away. However, until more convincing evidence is uncovered, analyzed, and a scientific determination is made that Bigfoot is a living, breathing animal, Bigfoot must remain firmly lodged within the realm of Legend."
